As the holiday season approaches, families come together at the dinner table with lavish table spreads and more food than they can finish. But did you know that for many Americans, this is far from their reality? One in six Americans say that they struggle with access to healthy food and beverage choices. That’s why throughout November, SavingsCARES is teaming up with Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) so that everyone gets a healthy holiday meal on their table.

Good Food at Home: Helping Families Build Healthy Habits Nationwide

PHA has vowed to make healthy eating equitable for all with their various initiatives, such as Good Food at Home. According to PHA’s Senior Director Laura Jeftic, the program has connected 28,000 families across 30 cities with more than 23 million servings of health-building produce. She explains, “Robust evaluation has shown that 87% of respondants said the program helped them built a healthy habit of eating fruits and vegetables. Through this initiative, we centered the needs of the participants, provided dignity of choice, made the healthier choice the easier choice, and centered convenience equity."

PHA has vowed to provide Americans with over 100 million servings of fruits and vegetables byt the end of 2025. This November, PHA is expanding the Good Food at Home program into Chicago, Baltimore, and Philadelphia, where access to affordable, healthy food remains an issue. Families will receive $80/month in produce credits for three months to buy fresh and frozen produce through Instacart, plus free delivery.

According to a study from the Illinois Institute of Technology, 36% of high school students and 61% of adults in Chicago are overweight or obese. A report conducted by Feeding America showed that food insecurity in Baltimore City has gone up from 18% to 21.7% after the COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly, the Philadelphia Tribune stated that in Philadelphia, food insecurity rose from 13.6% to 21.2% in just three years.

Shop and Support: How Your Purchases Fuel Food Equity

Last April, in our previous campaign with PHA, we made a huge impact towards this cause. Together, we raised $5,082 towards healthy produce for families. This is no small feat, as every $100 is equivalent to 280 servings of produce! This time, you can help us raise even more money for this noble cause by downloading Savings.com’s browser extension. From there, we’ll donate $5 for every user who downloads it, up to $5,000. Plus, with the extension, you’ll discover automatic coupon recommendations at hundreds of online brands as you shop. Join us and create a healthier America when you shop with our brand partners such as:
