I’m fine with my dog not paying rent, but it does feel like he could do something to earn the mountains of treats and toys at his disposal — I didn’t think it was too much to ask for him to try out some dog Halloween costume offerings for this article. He strongly disagreed.

After the arrival of these costumes ushered in a brief canine tantrum, I enlisted the help of my friend’s dog, Dilly, who’s much more fashion-forward than my chihuahua.

I’m really into this UFO look. It was hilarious to watch Dilly give his alien friend a “ride." The simplicity of this costume made it really easy to put on, and Dilly seemed to enjoy the attention he received from other earthlings. I will note that, after we took it off, Dilly seemed to believe the martian man was a toy. Now who’s abducting who?

Cow Dog Costume

Price: $14.48

It is, of course, always objectively funny when one animal dresses up as another. This cow costume was a no-brainer. Plus, the look gets added points for the detail of the udders, which slip onto the costume’s belly strap. The hood is a separate piece, which makes sizing more convenient, though the neck strap might be a dealbreaker for headwear-averse pups. All in all, this look, like Dilly, is fun and silly.

Dinosaur Dog Halloween Costume
